Broken District is the new label launched by the creative minds of Jus Jam, Momla and Antwan. The project is born with the idea of exploring alternative music styles that blend the influences of the label’s creators, including Jazz, House-Music, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, and experimental music. In order to give a global vision over the label’s territory, Broken District is launching with a series of VA EPs.Momla is kicking-off the label’s first release with an instrumental Funk ballad. He is using Soul samples, synths and an electronic piano to create a smooth vibe, led by a catchy bassline.Up next, Hip-Hop producers Yepes & Plae Casi are stepping out of their favourite field to incorporate House-Music rhythmic elements over an old-school R&B flavour.Berlin-based producer Marian Tone is closing the first side with a laidback, jazzy Hip-Hop instrumental. The other side opens with the Copenhagen-based talent Jeppe Wolmer. “Normal Position” is a modern take on Disco & Boogie, with a rhythmic bassline and reverbing Rhodes, ending with acid infused synths.Concluding this first release, label’s co-founder Jus Jam gives us another glimpse of his musical talent through a dreamy journey that blends House-Music, Hip-Hop and Jazz together.Welcome to the Broken District.
Ikävä Pii’s vinyl debut is a collection of three original songs, complemented with two recent remixes by Arif and Monty DJ. The three original works (Palau Figment, Rampage and La Conga Di Corto) are some of Ikävä Pii’s early productions – but were recovered in London between 2020 and 2021, to be released on Flippen Disks. Opener Palau Figment is a dive into a non-chronological sonic archive, a reluctant visit of a time past. Its saturated, driving drum machine beat is hesitantly accompanied by floating synthesizer play and takes us right into dream-land, grounded by a mono bass line that throughout the song is joined by a doubling replica in stereo - a memory of itself if you will; A nostalgic narrative told by a hardly comprehensible voice, while “Rampage” does a good job shredding it it right up, exposing the distortion of memory in its growing destruction of it’s driving force, the synthesized string sound that is eventually rendered nearly unrecognizable. This painful process of acknowledgement finds its cathartic reconciliation on the flip. “La Conga di Corto” combines the tropes of the A-side into an ecstatic 5 minutes of loopy, shifty drums and broken up synthesizers. Arif’s Woo Reduction keeps it’s titles promise, taking few elements from the original track into a minimal club track that will make dancefloors pause and bounce alike. Monty DJ’s Transformation Dub is a much less minimalistic approach, stacking layers of percussion on top of each other, shifting form constantly.

Landing this summer is a fantastic body of work from talented Irishman, Tr One, and quite notably the inaugural release on his own “Intrinsic Rhythm” label. His debut album “From The Studio Of” is a masterpiece that maneuvers between innovative strains of deep house, spaced out electro, and discerning mellow techno; the studio album spans across fourteen tracks including an acid tinged remix from, Cignol, and some stellar input from, Mihail P. Continuously inspired by the greats, and drawing influence from an array of sounds of the past whether that be, Chicago, Detroit and beyond, Tr One has now found himself with a cohesive series of tracks that speaks with power and creativity, and will see the light of day on both 2 x seperate 12” EP's and digital. The first EP cruises into “Pitchshift” a deep, and melodic Detroit beatdown influenced trip featuring the vocals of Elaine Dowling. “Turning Point” drifts you up a notch, emotional synths breathe life into the crisp drum arrangements, but never getting carried away. The intelligently constructed “I’m Dreaming Again” sways gently in the realms of the after hours, hypnotic and captivating sounds from the Carlow based producer. Maintaining the enigmatic mood is “Stay Offline” a distinctive bassline drives the track allowing the other elements to converse peacefully. Cignol’s remix of “Turning Point” brings a new acid dynamic to the album, squelchy lines bounce around tidy drum work.
